On November 6, 2024, FISCO embarked on a new journey with the launch of its new location at Cameron Senior Center in Westford, MA. With a goal to create a welcoming environment to combat senior isolation for the seniors of Westford and the neighboring towns, FISCO celebrated the launch with the Diwali celebration.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome note and heartfelt Diwali greetings extended to all attendees by Rakshit Mazumdar, setting a joyous and inclusive tone for the gathering. Mr. Mazumdar, in his opening address, not only welcomed everyone but also took the opportunity to delve into the core vision and mission that underpin the organization's activities, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and collaboration.
Members were briefed on FISCO membership details, benefits & program offerings, including a diverse range of activities and volunteering opportunities.
The core committee members and volunteers of the Burlington Team were introduced, and Jennifer Claro, Director of Cameron Senior Center, shared her enthusiasm for FISCO's participation in the Westford community to bring together Asian seniors. Partners from AgeSpan were equally delighted by the strong presence of the senior community from Westford and nearby towns.
The cultural event was a vibrant showcase of talent and artistry, featuring captivating performances by FISCO members. The audience was treated to a diverse range of performances, including soulful songs and mesmerizing Bhanjans that filled the air with melodies and emotions. Following these enchanting performances, the spotlight shifted to the graceful Ms. Anshuka Shah, a highly skilled classical dancer renowned for her expertise in Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, and Bollywood dance styles. Her performance was a breathtaking display of precision, grace, and storytelling through movement, captivating the audience and leaving them in awe of her talent.
As the day progressed, the atmosphere was further enriched by Mr. Ram Bharatan's recitation of Shlokas, which added a spiritual and meditative dimension to the event. His recitation resonated through the venue, creating a sense of tranquility and reverence among the attendees.
After the cultural feast for the senses, the attendees were treated to a sumptuous hot lunch, further enhancing the communal spirit of the event. The aroma of delicious food filled the air, bringing everyone together to enjoy a moment of shared culinary delight. The event not only entertained and inspired but also served as a reminder of the power of art and culture to unite people from different backgrounds and create memorable experiences that linger in the hearts and minds of all who were present.
The success of the event was credited to the committed assistance of a group of young volunteers (Annu Jain, Jyoti Verma, Rupa Shah, Leela Obilichetti, Kruti Shah, Sonal Chitnis, Riya Bagkar, and Payal), who played a key role in decorations, food service, greetings, and cleanup. Their unwavering dedication was instrumental in ensuring the event's triumph and the welfare of our senior community.
We are enthusiastic about our collaboration with the Cameron Senior Center in Westford, which aims to provide a sense of purpose for Asian seniors in our community. This partnership will create opportunities for seniors to socialize, enhancing their quality of life through active aging.
