Ms. Nicole conducted Alzheimer’s awareness sessions in Burlington COA and Westford COA, where she discussed how memory loss can disrupt daily life and may be a sign of Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
Alzheimer’s is a brain disease that leads to a gradual decline in memory, thinking, and reasoning abilities.
One of the most common early signs of Alzheimer’s is forgetting recently learned information. Other signs include forgetting important dates or events, repeatedly asking the same questions, and increasingly relying on memory aids (such as reminder notes or electronic devices) or family members for tasks that were once manageable independently.
While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, treatments are available that can potentially slow the progression of the disease. Both drug and non-drug options can help alleviate symptoms.
Exercise can be beneficial for managing Alzheimer’s-related issues, including memory, mood, balance, and cardiovascular health. It can also improve sleep and reduce the risk of falls.
The sessions concluded with a note of gratitude from FISCO members.
